Tyronn Lue is set to take over the Los Angeles Clippers after Doc Rivers firing.
For a team that is built to win right now, anything less than a championship is a bust.
Lue has come out with strong words claiming his two star players, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, are here to stay.
Lue wanted the team to know they’re in this together and not to let last season be detrimental to this team’s focus.
“I think Kawhi and PG are here to stay for a long time,” Lue said on ESPN. “It’s just, I think in their situation and where they want to be is here with the Clippers. We’ve just got to make it a great environment, and we have to win.”
Lue is under tremendous pressure to win.
George and Leonard both can opt-out after this season if they don’t gel or if they have issues with Lue at the helm.
The Clippers are low on assets after trading many of them to Oklahoma City to get George.
If the Clips fall short and lose their guys they would be stuck in a rough position without getting any value back after two sub-par seasons.
“If you don’t have pressure, that means you’re not in a situation where you can win a championship,” Lue said on ESPN. “I’ll welcome that pressure because I want to win. Anytime you have a chance to win a championship, there’s pressure.”
Lue has won championships as a player with the Lakers and a coach with Cleveland, but a title with the Clippers would arguably be his greatest accomplishment yet.
